A extended voyage around the Australian Coast has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The liner left without her and came back later that day after the ship staff realised the woman was not present.

A major search operation found her body the following day.

Authorities are investigating the event, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer said that guests and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the vessel in the port city upon its return.

The vessel initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to join the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the choice of hiking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "stunned and distressed that the liner left the location after an planned excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her mother as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking group.

"Based on limited information we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm period, and she became unwell on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"They requested her to go back, alone. Then the ship departed, apparently without conducting a roll call.

"At a certain moment in that process, or soon after, she succumbed, alone."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "cooperating fully with investigators to assist their examination".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had offered its total backing to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The liner serves up to one hundred twenty travelers with forty-six crew, according to company information. It was specially constructed to enter distant regions of the nation's shoreline and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to take individuals on day excursions.

Events such as this are uncommon, and liners have systems to document which passengers are getting on or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard really isn't an option," a specialist commented.
